Monday reads: Ines's Paris

Good morning... wait, it's afternoon! I've been devouring Ines de la Fressange's book, Parisian Chic, it makes me want to move to Paris (not that I didn't want to before)  :). I loved her recommendations for clothing and beauty as well as what to eat do and see in Paris, she recommends drinking carrot juice instead of soda which I'm going to try.  I loved reading about Ines's Paris, I totally recommend this book! Ines works for Roger Vivier, and I discovered some 'little diaries' she makes for the company, soo cute, they're worth watching.
She loves Paris's classic restaurant Cafe De Flore
The oh so chic author herself.
P.S Every Monday I'm going to post my latest and favorite read I'm calling it Monday reads.

J.crew goes off to Russia

It's our dear Coco Chanel's birthday today! I wish I had known before I would have planned a party, maybe this weekend...

The ever pleasing J.crew has taken an excursion to Russia, this makes me wish I was one of these lucky, cashmere wearing ballerinas. You never know what the amazing Jenna Lyons is going to think up next!  Crewcuts is, of course, equally adorable.
Have a great weekend, maybe with a few Chanel birthday parties and J.crew shopping sprees!

xoxo, thea

ENFIELD S.SHELL BLK
Get some classic and durable g.h Bass bucks...

Be cozy and creative.

Make awesome jack-o-lanterns! With a little help from Martha, of course.

And watch Breakfast at Tiffany's every other month, you can't go wrong with a little Audrey!

Hair: up or down?

Good afternoon, lets talk a bit about hair, mines mostly up in a bun or a high ponytail.

I've just started wearing my hair down. I've got some highlights (naturally, aren't I lucky!) from the summer sun (when it comes out that is).

I didn't use to wear it down at all, after time my hair lost a lot of volume:(

Have a wonderful  and sunny weak!

Fridays with Julia: Poulet poche au vin Blanc

Hello, I've been a bit umm lazy on my Fridays with Julia posts the last one I posted was way back here in May! I have to admit I as a bit queasy around the raw chicken, I was vegetarian for a few years (oh and I was vegan for a week, but started craving dairy and stopped, but thats another  story). I won't be posting for the weekend since I'm going to my cousins wedding in Oregon, are you doing anything fun this weekend?

Recipe serves 4

for vegetables
2 medium carrots
1 medium onion, and 1/3 cup chopped leek
3 celery stalks
3 Tbsp butter
Peel the carrots and onions, wash and trim celery. Cut the vegetables into thin slices and cook slowly in a covered casserole in the butter over medium low heat. Stir frequently, and cook until the vegetables are soft but not brown.

 for chicken
2 1/2 lbs. ready cut frying chicken, washed, dried and trimmed
Salt
1 1/2 cups dry white wine, or 1 cup French vermouth
About 2 cups chicken stock or canned broth
The following herbs in a washed cheesecloth: Either 1/2 tsp tarragon or 1/2 imported bay leaf, 1/4 tsp time, and 4 parsley sprigs
Salt to taste
Prepare  the chicken for cooking, salt lightly, and arrange in the casserole, spreading the vegetables over and around it.  Cover casserole and let chicken sweat over medium heat, turning once. Then pour in the wine or vermouth and enough chicken stock to barely cover the chicken. Bury herb packet in the chicken, and bring the casserole to a simmer. Taste and salt lightly if necessary. Cover casserole and regulate heat to maintain liquid at a slow, quiet simmer. Cook the dark meat of the chicken for 15-20 minutes, white meat for 10-15. When you feel it is done, prick the meat o make sure the juice runs clear with no hint of rose. Tilt the casserole to skin of the fat [if there is any, in my case there hardly was any so I didn't bother to do this step] and serve, topped with parsley sprigs, if you wish.
Recipe from Mastering the Art of French Cooking by Julia Child and Simone Beck (with a few small tweaks in the writing of the recipe by me).

Bon appetit!

The Baker

It's been so long since I've posted a baking post, so I'll make up for that lost time with some totally delicious bread:)

Whole wheat since I'm on a healthy food kick. I found this at 101 cookbooks, It's super quick.

Nope, there's no 4 hour risings in this recipe, only 30 minutes (yaayy, am I dreaming!!). With butter...a whole wheat heaven (yes there's such thing)!

Here's some music to help ease the pain of a cloudy summer, well if you live in Seattle it's cloudy...(typical)  :( .

Savage Beauty

http://images.thesartorialist.com/thumbnails/2011/08/mcqueen11web.jpg
I am in love with Alexander McQueen's design, I would readily fly to NYC to see his exhibition at the the Met! He combined opposites, light and dark, death and life into fashion. Looking at his clothing can really make you think, it's amazing that a skirt can totally change your state of mind.

Sarah Burton has put new light on the brand, making it more feminine, (plus designing Kate Middleton's wedding dress!!). I'm thinking they should make a world tour of the exhibition, with a stop in Seattle of course ;).
